Jigsaw Puzzles are one of the worlds greatest time wasters. They offer much more than just putting together a broken picture, they help coordinate your eyesight they offer a nice stress reliever and are a genuinely enjoyable pastime. In a world of war games and fast action and movies and TV, Jigsaw Puzzles are one of the simple pleasures still left.
The origins of jigsaw puzzles go back to the 1760s when European mapmakers pasted maps onto wood and cut them into small pieces. The "dissected map" has been a successful educational toy ever since. Children still learn geography by playing with puzzle maps of Canada or the world.

The puzzles of those days were quite a challenge. Most had pieces cut exactly on the color lines. There were no transition pieces with two colors to signal, for example, that the brown area (roof) fit next to the blues (sky). A sneeze or a careless move could undo an evening’s work because the pieces did not interlock. And, unlike children’s puzzles, the adult puzzles had no guide picture on the box; if the title was vague or misleading, the true subject could remain a mystery until the last pieces were fitted into place.
The most common puzzles today are made from cardboard with an image printed on them. The pieces interlock and are precision cut by a machine. They are a simple pastime and for a relatively low cost they offer many hours of enjoyment including the fact that once your done you can pull them apart and do it all over again.
